Before the conquest of Jericho, God gave specific instructions to His people regarding the battle and the spoils. Since the victory belonged to the Lord, the spoils should also be consecrated to Him: “All the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the Lord: they shall come into the treasury of the Lord” (Joshua 6:19). But Achan, of the tribe of Judah, had developed a greedy character, and when he stood before those treasures (gold, silver, and Babylonian garments), he was overcome with a strong temptation.

Alcohol comes in four different forms: methyl, propyl, butyl, and ethyl. The first three forms can cause death even in small doses. The latter, ethyl or ethanol, is found in alcoholic beverages and is distilled from fermenting grain and fruits. Whether it’s wine, beer, or spirits, alcohol is the most accepted and abused drug in the world. It affects millions of people, young and old alike. Eight teens die daily in DUI crashes and more people were killed by alcohol consumption last year than from overdoses of heroin and prescription painkillers combined.

LINARES, CHILE—On April 28-May 1, 2017 a conference was held in Linares, Maule, Chile. The theme of the conference was "My Family in Your Hands". The guest speakers for the event were Brother Eli Tenorio and Sister Leoni Braga, with the participation of the local brethren. On Sabbath, there were approximately 140 individuals present.

Imagine the world without hospitals, doctors, or medications. We could get pretty close if we were more temperate with our diet, work, and sleep.
Self-indulgence isn't new, but in today's world, self-denial and self-control seem to have lost their meaning and purpose. Our society’s addiction to food is evident everywhere, from the endless hours of cooking shows available and the various “all you can eat competitions,” to the endless demand for restaurants. Nature has been twisted, and we don’t eat to live, rather live to eat.
