Moriah Heights, California—During sectional practice at the International Music Camp held in Moriah Heights in July 2017, a seemingly distant and impossible dream was born.
The musicians imagined how wonderful it would be to someday have a large brass ensemble. At the time, the entire brass section of the orchestra was composed of two or three trumpets. It was unanimously thought that a brass ensemble was impossible.
But with God, nothing is impossible (Jeremiah 32:27). If an orchestra was possible, why not a brass ensemble? Little by little, interest was awakened in learning to play brass instruments.
Just six months later, there were three trombones playing in the orchestra. In 2018, the beginnings of a brass ensemble played at a local conference.
Once the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions eased in 2020, the dream was taken up once again, and rehearsals were set. By then, there were French Horn, trumpet, tuba, and percussion section musicians! Today, there are eighteen active members of Moriah Brass.
On September 11, 2021, Moriah Brass held its first Fall Concert to commemorate its first year as an organized ensemble. It was a night to praise the Lord in recognition that “Hitherto hath the Lord helped us,” 1 Samuel 7:12.
