A Call to Fast and Pray Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic

A call from the GC Executive Committee for all Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement members to fast and pray on March 27, 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dear Brethren, members of the Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement:

We pray that the Lord Jesus Christ, our merciful Savior, may continue to protect you and your families in these unusual circumstances—taking this opportunity also to greet you in the name of our Savior, with the encouraging words found in the book of Zephaniah chapter 3 verse 12: “I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.”

We sincerely express our deep sympathy towards our brothers and sisters in different parts of the world who are suffering because of the impact that the COVID 19 pandemic has produced. Thus we invite our brethren around the world to join us in a day of prayer and fasting, on the Friday of March 27, 2020, to afflict our souls before the Lord, and to review and examine our lives in the light of the word of God.

The news around the world reveals that the changes in our social and religious life are severe and rapid ones. We have preached the “end-time-events prophecies” for many years—and behold, we really start to feel in much greater degree that our generation is part of their fulfillment. The eternal reality is displayed on the horizon, and our future is very near. “Great changes are soon to take place in our world, and the final movements will be rapid ones.”—Testimonies, vol. 9, p. 11.

“Unless we understand the importance of the moments that are swiftly passing into eternity, and make ready to stand in the great day of God, we shall be unfaithful stewards. The watchman is to know the time of night. Everything is now clothed with solemnity that all who believe the truth for this time should realize. Our time is precious. We have but few, very few days of probation in which to make ready for the future, immortal life. We have no time to spend in haphazard movements. We should fear to skim the surface of the word of God.”—Ibid., vol. 6, p. 407.

Now is the time when we need God the most. Let us go to the throne of our merciful Heavenly Father that will have mercy on us. “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.” Isaiah 55:7.

The LORD assures us that: “If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:13, 14.

May we all take great comfort and obtain divine strength from on high, through the omnipotent power of our mighty God and the precious promises He has for us in these last days!
