The Upper Room was a place where Jesus and the disciples gathered for the Last Supper. It was also the place that the disciples retreated to after Jesus’ crucifixion, and in which He appeared to their surprise, to speak peace and comfort to them. After His ascension, it was here that they met once again, to make things right with each other, and to pray for the promised outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This prayer was answered in a powerful way, and the disciples went forth in a movement that reached the whole world.
Today, we wait for the fulfillment of the same promise—the gift of the Holy Spirit. We must again gather in our own “upper room”—for the same work of humility, confession, prayer and desire to complete the gospel commission.
