Dear believers of the world church:

Greetings with Psalm 65:1: “You crown the year with your goodness, and your paths drip with abundance.”

I am excited to share that January 09, 2021, is our annual Health Awareness Sabbath. It was established by the General Conference Medical Department to bring together our churches for elevating our awareness as it relates to health and well-being. Last year, many churches used this event as a Sabbath to be remembered. This year I hope that no church will miss this annual health event!

Last year our church in Georgia shared their experience:

“We had a wonderful Health Sabbath: Our morning topics in Carrollton, Georgia, reminded us how to prevent and reverse heart disease and how to use hygiene and temperance in all we do. In the afternoon the youth praised God with reminders about the 8 laws of health!”

This year, due to the global health crisis of COVID-19, our annual health awareness Sabbath can play a more prominent role in our worldwide church. People are searching for answers and are open to lifestyle transformation. This is an excellent opportunity for our health message to reach our homes and communities and bring people closer to the Great Physician. We wish to encourage each church, conference, and union to creatively develop this health-focused event.

We must seize this opportunity to share our health and wellness message for our benefit and that of our communities. Our evidence-based lifestyle solutions provide simple answers to complex problems that challenge our world’s health concerns. Drawing attention to one’s well-being at the start of a year allows people to include new lifestyle choices into their New Year resolutions.

2021 can be a year of vibrant health! Let us use this opportunity to make lasting changes in our families, churches, and impact our communities for Christ. Thank you for collaborating with us in making this health awareness Sabbath a memorable occasion.

Wishing you abundant health and a blessed New Year.

John Baer

Director of the Medical Department of the General Conference
