The Musician and His Life With God - Study Guide

GC Music Comittee
September 12, 2016
This study guide is to be used during the afternoon study portion of October 1st's Sabbath program.

This study should be conducted on Sabbath afternoon with the entire church assembled. The seats can be accommodated in order to facilitate discussion.

It should be clear from the beginning that the activity is a directed, interactive study and NOT A DEBATE, since there are some controversial issues to be discussed.

For best results, we suggest the following:

a) The study refers exclusively to the spirituality of the musician. All statements and comments should be directed to this subject. Questions about musical issues such as rhythm, instruments, lyrics, musical styles, etc., should not be answered. Otherwise it diverts the focus and causes disruption.

b) We should avoid commenting or answering questions about who may or may not sing during worship, on disciplinary rules, or organization of the Church as pertaining to music or musicians in general. Such matters are not part of the purpose of this meeting.

c) To ensure order during this study, all questions and/or comments on one topic should be done before moving on to the next topic.

Furthermore, it is important that the topics of the study be alternated with musical performances, especially with congregational hymns suitable for the occasion. These are to be previously selected.
